This neglected, hard to find burial ground in the woods 200 yards from the road is possibly the burial site of Richard Borden, the progenitor of all Bordens in America. He settled in Portsmouth in 1638 and died in 1671. See the map here that includes latitude and longitude. Also see the reason for my belief that Richard is here - page 39 of Hattie Borden Weld's Genealogy of Richard and Joan Borden who settled in Portsmouth in 1638. The RI Cem database lists Richard as buried in the Friends Churchyard, also acquired from Dennis, but years after his death - so this Dennis cemetery is possibly the location of Richard.

NOTE: George H. Richardson (GHR) recorded this lot in Oct. 1892 in his
Richardson Scrapbook 974 now at Newport Historical Society. He described
the location of the "Dennis Ground" as "Old Ogden Farm of
Portsmouth, east of Wapping Road, north of the house."
